County Health Workforce Brief

Know a county's health-workforce shortage before you commit a grant, staff, or a site.

A one-time market-screening and preliminary-diligence starter for a single U.S. county: where the health-workforce shortage is, who is already serving it, and what the local healthcare labor market looks like — HRSA shortage scores, MUA/P & FQHC capacity, and BLS wages, scored and packaged into one county PDF so you don't assemble it by hand.

What you'll get

Shortage scores

HRSA Health Professional Shortage Area (HPSA) scores for primary care, dental, and mental health — plus FTEs short and rural-designation status.

Supply & demand

Underserved population, provider-to-population ratios, poverty context, and medically-underserved (MUA/P) signals that frame local labor-market pressure.

Wage context

BLS QCEW healthcare-sector average wages and employment (ambulatory, home-health, nursing/residential) for the county — labor-cost context, not a salary guarantee.

Safety-net capacity

FQHC grantee and look-alike site presence and per-capita density — where federally-funded access already exists in the county.

Every figure is sourced from public data and labeled with its vintage. Wage figures are BLS QCEW county averages (private ownership), not medians or salary offers. Where a value isn't published for a county, the brief says so — it never shows a fabricated number.

“Isn't this public data I could look up free?”

Yes — HRSA and BLS publish every input free. The catch is where: shortage scores in one federal tool, medically-underserved areas in another, FQHC sites in a third, wages in a fourth — most at tract or state grain, none scored against each other. The tools that do pull it together sell at the state level for tens of thousands a year.

The brief does the assembly: one county, HPSA scores by discipline, MUA/P and FQHC capacity, and BLS healthcare wages side by side in a single sourced PDF — the hour or two of cross-referencing you'd otherwise repeat for every county you screen.
